Asalaamu alaikum wa-rahmatullahe wa-barakatuhu brothers and sisters.
As you all probably know Mujahid Zabiullah, the spokesman for the Afghan Taliban, read an announcement from Mullah Omar, the Amir al-mumineen, to Al-Jazeera last week. Link to article in Arabic:
http://www.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/02711DBB-A636-49DA-93B1-3DF44E90D7CB.htm
To sum it up, Mullah Omar announced the following major points in his announcement:
- We have the right to defend our country; our aim is to 'only' liberate Afghanistan and not to oppose danger to the world.
- We want diplomatic relations with all countries of the world.
- Nato countries ought to push its government to pull their military involvement out of Afghanistan.
From this statement, it is apparent that Mullah Omar's goals and plans have changed drastically. His announcement calls for Nationalism rather than Sharia Law. His announcement says that the only reason they are fighting the occupiers in Afghanistan is becuase they have 'occupied' Afghanistan, and he confirms this statement by saying that the Afghan Taliban want diplomatic relations with all countries of the world. Forgive me if I've misunderstood anything from this article, as my Arabic is very weak I've provided the link to the complete announcement above. Considering that Mullah Omar's is an Amir al-Mumineen, what are we Muslims supposed to do with such an announcement?
